Module 5 chapter 9

Drawing with wire for laminated layers

The first part of this chapter was to create an interesting still life of transparent/translucent objects.

5/9/1

The first composition with lighting applied giving good shadows.

5/9/2

No light applied, no shadows, but the definition on the objects is more defined.

5/9/3

Second composition with light.

5/9/4

No light

The next challenge was to sketch the composition as a continuous line drawing.

5/9/5

The above sketches were worked in marker pens, and oil pastel.

5/9/6

This one was oil pastel and charcoal pencil.

5/9/7

In this set of drawings I was looking at parts of the composition, using a 9b pencil and finally found a satisfying shape in the LHS corner.

Having completed the continuous line drawings I decided to make a watercolour sketch of the composition and also placed a piece of maroon paper behind it to add some colour reflections in the glass.

5/9/9

And a little loose play on the iPad

Next task was to draw my chosen shape with wire, I did this and pasted it to my sketchbook to use for rubbing and printing on farics and papers that will be used in the Laminating technique.

5/9/10

I looked for a colour pallet in some shells that I'd found at Pembrey beach in Wales and an oyster shell collected in France.

5/9/11

I'd already sketched the oyster shell to see what colours I could identify.

5/9/12

5/9/13

Another iPad interpretation.

Lastly I printed a collection of papers and fabric to use in part 2.
